Thank you for choosing to book with Saint Hilda’s House, we look forward to welcoming you to our family home. By making this booking you are entering into a legal agreement with us. Reservations are made and accepted on the following terms. Please read our terms and conditions below:-


We reserve the right to change the price of accommodation at any time. The price of your stay will be confirmed at the time of booking.


Payment if not previously made, should be made on arrival by either cash, credit / debit card. We regrettably cannot accept payment via cheque. All card transactions are secure and comply with the relevant legal requirements at the time of booking.


When you make your booking a legally binding contract exists between us that is non-cancellable and non-refundable. Should you need to cancel within 28 days of arrival you will be liable for the full amount of the booking, even if you are unable to take your holiday. For this purpose we reserve the right to levy the credit / debit card provided by you at the time of booking with the amount payable, less any deposit already paid in full and final settlement.

If for some reason you do need to cancel, it is important that you tell us at the earliest opportunity so that we may attempt to re-let your room and minimise your loss. If we successfully re-let your room, no additional charge apart from a 20 pound administration fee will be made.

Non availability of accommodation

We would only cancel your holiday if your accommodation was unavailable for reasons beyond our control. We would, however, attempt to offer you alternative accommodation. If this was not possible or unacceptable to you, then we would refund all monies paid by you for the holiday. Our liability would not extend beyond this refund.


Your accommodation will be available to you from 5pm on the day of arrival, unless otherwise arranged. We may not be able to accommodate you prior to the agreed time due to the need to prepare your room. You may however collect your room keys and drop of your luggage at an earlier time by prior arrangement.

Late arrival procedure

If you will be arriving later than 7.00pm, please ensure that you contact us to let us know, with your estimated time of arrival.


Please vacate your room by 10.30am, so that your room can be prepared for other guests.

Damages and breakages

Please enjoy your stay with us but we ask that you treat the house with respect. Please notify us of any incidents of damage as they occur. We do not normally charge for minor breakages but you will be required to pay for loss or damage to furniture or equipment.

We reserve the right to levy any such charge directly to the credit / debit card provided by you at the time of booking, without prior notice or your consent. We will provide a receipt.


In accordance with the law, smoking is strictly prohibited in any part of the house. For your safety, there is a fire alarm system in operation. Any breach of this policy, may result in the termination of your stay without any refund.

Use of candles

For reasons of our home being Grade 2* listed, and insurers requirements, we kindly request that no candles be lit in your room.

Food policy

We respectfully ask that guests do not bring takeaways into the house to consume.

Noise levels

We aim to provide our guests with a peaceful, relaxing stay and for these reasons we ask that noise levels are kept to a minimum especially after 10pm. We reserve the right to terminate your stay immediately without being liable for any refund or compensation where you engage in unacceptable behaviour that causes a disturbance or nuisance to others.


Free on street parking is available using scratch card permits provided to guests by Saint Hilda’s House.


Given the age and layout of the house there are features which make access difficult for those with limited mobility. Saint Hilda’s House is accessed by a series of stone steps leading to the front door. All guest bedrooms are located on the first floor, and accessed by a flight of stairs. Breakfast is served at lower ground floor level and again a flight of stairs need to be negotiated. For these reasons and the house having no lift, may we strongly urge those with mobility problems to discuss with us any special requirements they may have regarding access prior to booking.

Minimum stay

We operate a minimum 2 night stay throughout the year. For certain public holidays and festivals such as Whitby Regatta and Folk week there may be a minimum 3 night stay required.

Children and Pets

Sorry we do not accept pets into the house, except guide dogs for the blind. We welcome supervised children to stay over the age of 12.

Items left behind

We can accept no responsibility for any possessions left at the property after you have departed. Small items left behind can be returned to you by post, the cost of postage may be charged to your credit / debit card.


We offer free Wi-Fi for our guests use. Please note that we have no responsibility for or control over the internet services you access and do not guarantee that any services are error or virus free. We have no responsibility for or over the information you transmit or receive via the service. We do not guarantee the availability of the service, the speed at which information may be transmitted or received via the service or that the service will be compatible with your equipment or any software which you use.


We do not accept any liability for any damage, loss or injury to any member of your party or any possessions, unless proven to be caused by a negligent act by ourselves or our employees or contractors whilst acting in the course of employment.

Privacy Policy

Any data collected during the course of this booking will be stored on our computer. By making a booking you consent to being contacted from time to time about promotions and offers. We will not share your details with any third party.


Saint Hilda’s House take every care to ensure the accuracy of all property descriptions. All information is given in good faith and assumed to be correct at the time of printing / publishing on the internet, but we cannot be held responsible for any errors or the result of such errors.
